Seriously. $400,000 to get just over 2,000 people to the island? That’s the going rate?
And he can’t do it? What the hell?
For $400,000, I’d carry 2,000 people on my back! I’d pick each one of them up at the airport on my bike!
If you can’t get 2000 people her for four hundred thousand dollars, you’re an idiot.
I could do that in my sleep.
Comic-book Based Tourism is the way I’d go. *grin*
But seriously. We’re giving this guy all this cash to bring… or try and fail to bring… 2,200 people to the island. Isn’t he the guy who forced Rosie O’Donnell’s cruise away? Or at least was part of all that?
I’m mindblown by this! How frigging hard is it? $400,000 to bring in 2,200 Christians (I’m assuming that “Faith-Based” is code for “Christian”, as… well… there are other religions?). I’m not even religious (although I AM an ordained Minister) and I could do that. I’ve had about 20 different ideas since I sat down to write this (ok, I was sitting already. I sit alot…). From those cheesy CD ads, with the Christian concerts and bands, to bringing in some big preachers. Pick one of the big name Evangelists.
$400,000. 2,200 people.
And he can’t do that.
And he’s lying about it.
Now THERE’s some Christian… I mean “Faith-based”… values for you.

I just posted this elsewhere, but I’m going to put it here, ‘cuz I’m completely frustrated with this underhanded bullshit.
The UBP put out a rather… well… it wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever seen.
Most of you have seen it. The fish thing.
There’s tonnes wrong with it, from a writing standpoint, an artistic standpoint and an animation standpoint. This, of course, is just my opinion.
It’s not horrible, and you can see where they were trying to go with it, but it misses the mark.
But, as ridiculous as it is, this is even worse.
Check out the response on the official PLP blog!
http://plp.bm/blog
“Have you seen the UBP’s ridiculous new fish animation? Even pro-UBP bloggers are lampooning the ad. One of them [with a link to Limey in Bermuda] said, “It’s not funny, or clever. It’s mindless.”
It’s not only mindless. It’s also brimming with race-based allusion.
Listen carefully to the voice of the green, yellow and white fish. It’s very Amos ‘n’ Andy. These kind of stereotypical portrayals have no place in our society and shows just how out-of-touch the UBP is.
If this is how they conduct their campaign, imagine how they are going to run government. Someone clearly thought that spending money to create an animation chock full of racial stereotypes was a good idea. If this is the way they run their campaign, imagine what kind of schemes those people are going to spend taxpayer money on.
You have GOT to be kidding me!
Both voices are quite obviously white, based on tone and timbre. One sounds like a REALLY bad cartoon character from Brooklyn, the other sounds like a redneck. Not sure why they went with those two accents, but that’s another matter.
If they are trying to imply that the “Bigger one with the deeper voice/Smaller one with the high pitched voice” comedy duo concept is Amos ‘n’ Andy-esque, they’re going to have a battle, as they’re going to have to also denounce:
Laurel & Hardy
Abbot & Costello
The Honeymooners (Including the latest incarnation with Mike Epps and Cedric the Entertainer)
Sonny and Cher
Cheech & Chong
Bing Crosby & Bob Hope (Although, they were reversed)
The Two Ronnies
Pete and Dud
Kenan & Kel
Fry & Laurie
Ernie & Bert
Bullwinkle & Rocky
David Spade & Chris Farley
Flanders & Swann
Good lord. The history of comedy is made up of this kind of double act.
Are they going to call all of them racist?
Why stoop to this tactic? How is that helping Bermuda?

Dude… I’m not sure if I like it, especially the non-white hands, but I gotta admit that it looks cool!
The Joker! It’s the JOKER, dammit!

Looking over the UBP proposal, with all the promises, I got to thinking.
Or what?
”We’re gonna build 500 houses.”
And if you don’t?
“We’re gonna fix education and do this and that.”
Maybe you will. That’d be great.
But what if you don’t?
What I’d like to see is something along the lines of “We’re going to do all this, or at least give it our absolute best shot, or, in 4 years, we will call an election and you can get rid of us.”
Now THAT is an election promise I could get behind.

This time, I’m not behind the rest of ‘em because of my usual cluelessness.
This time, it’s simply because I am completely in shock at the blatantness of it all… evidenced by the insanely lousy title.
Just…. just wow.

Most of the blogs have debated the pros and cons of the two parties in preparation for the upcoming election. We’ve heard ‘em all and they’ve all been spun to death.
I just thought I’d throw another pro onto the UBP side.
I have two main reasons for thinking the UBP would be a good idea.
This isn’t a show of support for them, believe you me. I have a good number of problems with them.
1) The insane amount of scrutiny that would be heaped on them.
After almost a decade of the PLP using race as an excuse for pretty much any criticism, critics and pundits would have a field day with the UBP! Add to that the fact that PLP supporters would leap all over any slipup or instance of whatever and you’ve got pretty much guaranteed transparancy!
But that’s not the most important factor to me.
The number one reason that I would like the UBP in power is this:
2) The simple fact that they’re all SO so easy to draw!
Take a look at these folks. They’re walking caricatures!
Come on! They’re a cartoonist’s DREAM!
Regardless of your political affiliation, or any of that other stuff, you GOTTA get these shmoes into power, just so I can be insanely cruel in my pictures of ‘em!

Sometimes, when you’re wearing a t-shirt that has a design on the chest? I’M LOOKING AT THE DESIGN!
Lady, if you’re going to wear a shirt with a really cool design on the front, with writing in an interesting font, and someone happens to be looking at it… don’t get pissed that their eyeline is on track with your breasts.
Sorry. Had to get that out.

There’s a lot of talk about bias in the media, especially “Pro-UBP” bias by the Royal Gazette.
But is it?
Seriously. If there IS bias, and I’m not saying there is, but, is it really “Pro-UBP” as opposed to “Anti-PLP”?
And if it IS “Anti-PLP”, how much of that is because they are the government of the day?
I recall the daily paper spanking the UBP when they were in power, on a regular basis. Is the current “lack” of spanking of the UBP simply because… well… they haven’t done much?
Also, does bias, real or perceived, negate the bad stuff the target of that bias has done or is doing?
I was thinking about it this morning (before coffee, I hasten to add) and this came to me.
If you have two kids, both of them evil little buggers, and don’t punish one of them, does the unfairness of the situation negate the fact that the one you do punish is an evil little bugger? None of you, dear readers, of course. I’m sure your children are wonderful, angelic cherubs that would never do any wrong, but you know who I’m talking about… other people’s children.
If there is a bias in the media, should the intrinsic unfairness of bias be used as an excuse for the stuff they report?
Should others hypocricy be used as an evasive measure?
More importantly, how do we deal with that? How do we respond to someone who uses it to let bad behaviour off the hook.
This morning, there is a front page story about the hospital report and Dr. Brown’s and Health Minister Mr. Scott’s alleged plan of action with regard to it.
I’m sure this will be used as evidence of bias, and put up as such in defense of those notables.
But how do we get answers?

Seriously, is it just me, or is it because there was a holiday today and I did pretty much nothing but watch a Project Runway marathon (shut up. I have a wife. That’s not to say I don’t like the show, but…), or has anyone else noticed that this pre-election warm up is… well… boring?
Aren’t we supposed to get some interesting stuff happening? It’s just been the same ol’ same.
I dunno. It started so dirty and now it’s… well, it’s boring. Come on, politicians! Get on the ball! We want our bread and circuses!
